Eddy Cabello & Rick Such

By spring of 2006, Indianapolis sound engineer Rick Such and ad agency creative director Eddy Cabello had collaborated on several “advertising” projects for various clients. But, it was during a Saturday morning breakfast that allowed them to move from being “working” friends to becoming “real” friends. Their mutual musical interests would lead them down a path that would find them talking to the world’s best musicians, producers, writers and engineers in the music business.

I can’t remember exactly how it happened, but when we started talking about music, liner notes, artists, albums, producers…it was a done deal. We had to do something about it. That’s when we created Inside MusiCast”, says Such. “I can remember talking about artists such as Al Jarreau, David Foster, and so on. But when we both mentioned the music of the band Toto and Steely Dan, we each knew we had connected with a friend who appreciated album liner notes”, adds Cabello.

It didn’t take long for Such and Cabello to bring their talents together. Cabello brought design and branding to the table by way of his ad agency, Cabello Associates, while Such provided the recording/editing facility with his studio, Earshot Audio-Post. Soon they had a name, branding, and a first website that would be used to launch their initial podcasting effort.

On June 2006, they launched their first IMC podcast with saxophonist Scott Page. They had met on a forum designed by Page for the band Toto – The Toto Network. In fact, Cabello and Such were also correspondents, contributing content to the Toto-dedicated forum. One thing led to another and Cabello and Such invited Page to be their first guest. Page had previously toured extensively with rock bands Pink Floyd and Super Tramp.

Since the first interview, Such and Cabello have interviewed nearly 200 guests on Inside MusiCast.
